The situation at the railway line where a Kanchanjunga Express train met with an accident, killing eight and injuring several others, is slowly going back to normal with train services being resumed early on Tuesday.
The Kanchanjunga Express was en route to the Sealdah Station on Monday when a goods train rammed into it from the rear. The impact of the collision derailed two rear compartments of the train, as per the divisional railway manager of North Frontier Railway’s Katihar division.
Affected train reaches Sealdah
After suffering significant damage in its rear, the Kanchanjunga Express (Train No 13174) reached Sealdah at 3 am on Tuesday.
Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim was present at the station to receive the passengers.
Injured passengers get treated
The passengers who were left injured in the accident are currently getting treatment at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.
The Prime Minister’s Office has announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased while the severely injured will be given Rs 2.5 lakh while those with minor injuries will be given Rs 50,000.
