As the country is in intense rage following the horrific rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, another brutal crime has been reported where a nurse from Uttarakhand was raped and killed by a drug addict who left her body in an empty plot in Uttar Pradesh.
Investigation in the Uttarakhand nurse rape and murder case started on July 31 soon after her sister filed a missing person report at Rudrapur Kotwali when she did not return home the previous day.

As per reports, the nurse, mother of an 11-year-old girl, working at a private hospital in Rudrapur, did not return home on July 30 after her duty.
CCTV footage from and around Indra Chowk in Rudrapur showed the nurse getting on to an e-rickshaw to return from work on July 30.
Analysing the CCTV footage from where the nurse was seen least, the police identified a suspicious man following her.
On August 8, the police found her body at an empty plot in Uttar Pradesh’s Bilaspur.
“When we searched for her, we got to know that she had reached all the way to her village (before being attacked) in Uttar Pradesh. On August 8, we were informed about the body of a woman having been recovered from bushes in that area. It was soon confirmed that it was the body of the missing woman,” a report by The Indian Express quoted Senior Superintendent of Police, Udham Singh Nagar, Manjunath T C as saying.
Her decomposed body was sent for the post-mortem and the report confirmed that she had been raped and strangled to death.
How was the culprit caught?
The police then started tracing the nurse’s mobile phone which the accused stole along with Rs 3,000 cash after committing the brutal crime.
The accused, identified as Dharmendra, a daily wage labourer from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested from Rajasthan’s Jodhpur on Wednesday (August 14).
According to a report by India Today, the cops have also arrested the accused’s wife and brought them to Rudrapur for interrogation.
During the investigation, Dharmendra confessed to the crime and admitted that on the evening of July 30, he saw the nurse walking alone on the roads and taking advantage of the darkness, he forcibly dragged her into the bushes.
When the victim resisted his attempt to sexually assaulted her, Dharmendra slammed her head against the road and eventually strangled her with a scarf.
After committing the crime, he dumped her body in the bushes and fled with her belongings, the accused told the cops in his confession.
“The accused is a (drug) addict and does not know the woman. On the day of the incident, he saw the woman going alone. As per our information, he stopped the woman, who fought back fiercely. She was, however, overpowered and… strangled her to death. He also sexually assaulted her. After the murder, he took the woman’s belongings and escaped,” said the SSP.
Meanwhile, in Kolkata, protests continue demanding justice for a 31-year-old trainee doctors who was brutally raped and murdered during her night shift at state-run R G Medical College and Hospital.
The case was taken from the Kolkata Police and handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday by the Calcutta High Court considering the intensity of the crime and need for speedy justice.
