In the Budget 2025-26, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced a nuclear energy mission with an outlay of Rs 20,000 crore.
The nuclear mission’s objective would be to generate 100 GW energy by 2047, said Sitharaman.
Sitharaman said that there would be greater involvement of the private sector in the nuclear energy production and the creation of small modular reactors would be promoted.
Power sector reforms and augmentation of capacity will be incentivised, said Sitharaman.
“Nuclear Energy Mission for Viksit Bharat. Development of at least 100 GW of Nuclear energy by 2047 is essential for our energy transition. For active partnerships with the private sectors towards this goal, amendments to the Atomic Energy Act and Civil Liability for the Nuclear Damage Act will be taken out,” said Sitharaman.
