While the Centre’s decision to re-conduct NEET UG 2024 on June 23 has been well-received by most, toppers have been left disappointed.
Talking to News18 Haryana, Anjali Yadav, a NEET aspirant from the state who scored 720/720, said that she and some of the other toppers are sad that the exams would be conducted once again. Yadav is, however, confident that she will once again perform well in the exams.
“I have full confidence in my abilities and I am ready to give the paper again,” she said.
The central government on Thursday informed the Supreme Court that the decision to award grace marks to NEET candidates had been revoked and that a re-examination would be conducted for those who were awarded grace marks.
In a message to fellow toppers, Yadav said no one should lose courage and work hard to reclaim the top position once again. Another student from the centre where Yadav gave her test, Yash Kataria said that he scored 718 with the help of grace marks.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Friday sought responses from those who had moved various high courts for a re-test of NEET-UG 2024 alleging question paper leaks and other irregularities on a plea of the National Testing Agency for transfer of such cases to the top court to avoid multiplicity of litigation.
Several high courts are seized of many petitions seeking reliefs like re-test, quashing of award of grace marks and independent probe into the alleged malpractices in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Under Graduate, 2024 (NEET-UG) exam which was held on May 5.
The examination was held on May 5 across 4,750 centres and around 24 lakh candidates appeared for it. The results were expected to be declared on June 14 but were announced on June 4, apparently because the evaluation of the answer sheets was completed earlier.
There have been allegations of question paper leaks in states like Bihar and other irregularities in the prestigious exam.
The allegations have led to protests in several cities and filing of cases in seven high courts as also the Supreme Court.
