Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that a new connect of Yoga tourism is very much visible in India as Yoga enthusiasts from across the world are coming to India to learn authentic Yoga.
Addressing the 10th International Yoga Day event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, PM Modi said, “In the last 10 years, the expansion of Yoga has changed the perception related to Yoga…Today, the world is seeing a new Yoga economy going forward. In India, from Rishikesh and Kashi to Kerala, a new connect of Yoga tourism is being seen.”
”…Tourists from across the world are coming to India because they want to learn authentic Yoga in India…People are even keeping personal Yoga trainers for their fitness…All of these have created new opportunities for the youth, new employment opportunities for youth,” added the Prime Minister.
Extending greetings to people from India and across the world, he said International Yoga Day has completed a historic journey of 10 years.
“…In 2014, I proposed International Yoga Day at the United Nations. This proposal by India was supported by 177 nations and this was a record in itself. Since then, Yoga Day has been creating new records,” said PM Modi.
He said today the world sees Yoga as a powerful agent for global good as it helps people live in the present without carrying the baggage of the past.
“When I am abroad, global leaders discuss Yoga wit me,” the Prime Minister said. “As we mark 10th International Yoga Day, I urge everyone to make Yoga part of their daily lives,” he added.
Talking about the popularity of Yoga, the PM said that many prestigious universities and institutions around the world are conducting research on Yoga and research papers are being published.
“This year in India, a 101-year-old woman Yoga teacher from France was accorded the Padma Shri. She had never come to India but she dedicated her entire life to creating awareness about Yoga. Today, research on Yoga is being done in prestigious universities and institutions around the world; research papers are being published.”
The event was scheduled to be held on the lawns of the SKICC on the banks of the Dal Lake but had to be shifted indoors due to incessant rain.
