Taking a swipe at Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said the Opposition takes care of its vote bank even while abusing him.
In remarks that stoked controversy and attracted a police complaint, Raut said that “if Maharashtra buried Aurangzeb, then who is Modi”.
“We have buried one Aurangzeb in this land of Maharashtra. For 27 years, Aurangzeb was fighting to conquer Maharashtra. In the end, we buried that Aurangzeb in the soil of Maharashtra and dug his grave. We have buried Aurangzeb in Maharashtra, then who is Narendra Modi for us,” said Raut, as per India TV.
Speaking at a rally in Maharashtra, Modi clubbed Raut’s remarks with another remark and said the Opposition carefully chooses words to abuse him.
“The fake Shiv Sena are talking about burying me alive. The Congress has also said, ‘Modi teri kabra khudgei (Modi, your grave will be dug).’…Even while abusing me, they take full care of appeasement. ‘Teri kabra khudegi’, ‘tujhe gaarh denge’ — they choose words that will make their vote bank happy,” said Modi in Hindi.
Last year, Congress activists had chanted “Modi teri kabar khudegi (Modi, your grave will be dug)” during a protest against the arrest of party leader Pawan Khera at the time.
‘Aurangzeb was born in Modi’s village’: Raut
Raut said on Thursday that Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb was born in Narendra Modi’s village. He added that this is why Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah treat people the way Aurangzeb treated his subjects.
“If you look at the history, Aurangzeb was born in Narendra Modi’s village. Next to Ahmedabad is a village named Dahod where Aurangzeb was born. Aurangzeb was born in Gujarat. That is why they (PM Modi and Amit Shah) are treating us like Aurangzeb,” said Raut, as per India TV.
Following Raut’s remarks, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) filed a police complaint against him and also wrote to the Election Commission of India (ECI) about the matter.
