Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that while the Opposition wears a cloak of secularism, it is deeply communal and all of its actions are driven by a communal outlook for politics.
In an interview with Network 18, Modi drew said that while he has to work hard as he is a principled person, the Opposition has found some easy methods to do politics, such as indulging in casteism and communalism.
Modi’s statement comes in the midst of Lok Sabha elections that the Opposition is fighting on the platform of issues like caste census and increasing caste-based reservations. On the other hand, Modi has continued to train his guns at dynastic politics of Opposition parties like Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and proposed policies like wealth distribution and financial and institutional surveys.
‘Every idea comes to them in communal frame’
Even as the Opposition calls itself secular, everything comes to it in a communal frame, said Modi.
Slamming the Opposition further on its stand on secularism, Modi said, “They are wearing a ‘chola’, a ‘burka’ of secularism, but they are communal. Every idea comes them in a communal frame. They don’t know anything else.”
Modi further said that the Opposition is deeply casteist and dynastic in nature.
Throughout the elections, Modi has slammed the Opposition parties —particularly the Congress— on the issue of secularism and minority appeasement. He and other senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) like Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah have rejected calls for religion-based reservations.
Modi draws contrast between him & Opposition
Drawing contrast between his politics and that of the Opposition, Modi said that he needs to work hard as he believes in principled politics whereas the Opposition has found some easy ways.
Modi listed communalism, casteism, and dynastic politics as the three easy route to easy politics.
Modi said, “These three things are common among all of them [INDIA bloc’s parties] who have come together. This is the root of all problems.”
Modi went on to say that the Opposition parties are now speaking against the stand of their own leader Indira Gandhi.
“You will find Indira Gandhi’s speeches. She gave long speeches against casteism. Now, people from her own party are seen giving casteist speeches. They have no social responsibility or accountability,” said Modi.
Drawing a parallel with the Opposition which he said seeks the easy way to politics, Modi said, “For people like me who believe in principles, ideals, and ideology, it takes much hard word to do politics. It also becomes very easy for them to oppose me.”
