A 55-year-old doctor was shot dead by two teenage boys inside his clinic at a private nursing home in South Delhi’s Jaitpur, police informed on Thursday.
The duo, aged between 16 and 17 years, had visited three-bed Nima Hospital around 1:30 am on Thursday for treatment, after which they fired at Dr Javad Akhtar, practicing Unani.
Delhi doctor shot dead in hospital
The Delhi Police said during the investigation, it was revealed that the two boys came to the hospital that falls under the Kalindi Kunj Police Station, after which one of them asked the staff to change the dressing of his injured toe.
The boy, with toe injury, had got dressing done the previous night in the same hospital, cops said.
After getting the injured toe dressed, the duo demanded to meet Dr Akhtar and barged into his cabin claiming to take a prescription of medicine.
Minutes later, the nursing staff on night duty, Gajala Parveen and Md. Kamil heard a gunshot and rushed towards Dr Akhtar’s cabin and found him in a pool of blood.
As per Parveen, blood was oozing from the left side of the doctor’s head.
Duo did recee the previous night
A report by Indian Express quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East), Rajesh Deo, as saying that the assailants had done recce the previous night when they came for dressing.
Targeted killing
Cops said prima facie it is a case of targeted killing as it was unprovoked.
After getting the information about the incident, a team of Delhi Police reached the spot and scanned the CCTV cameras installed in the hospital’s reception area, dressing room, and gallery to get the details of the accused.
A team from Delhi Police’s Forensics Unit also reached the spot to recover all the technical evidence from the crime scene.
