The Delhi Police on Sunday seized the CCTV digital video recorder (DVR) from Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s house in the case of alleged assault of AAP MP Swati Maliwal.

Maliwal has alleged that she was assaulted by Kejriwal’s personal assistant (PA) Bibhav Kumar at Kejriwal’s residence when the CM was present in the house. An FIR has been lodged in the matter and Kumar has been arrested. He has been booked for molestation and attempted culpable homicide.

The AAP has called the case the conspiracy by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and AAP leader Atishi has said that Maliwal is being used as a pawn by the BJP.

ANI reported that a Delhi Police team, including Additional DCP Anjitha Chepyala, arrived at Kejriwal’s residence in relation to the Maliwal case. Later, they were reported to have left after seizing the CCTV DVR. Visuals of the police personnel leaving were shared by the agency.

The AAP has accused the Delhi Police of working at the directions of the BJP. It has also accused the BJP of trying to crush the BJP with ‘Operation Jhadu’.

“BJP has started ‘Operation Jhaadu’ so that we don’t grow big and become a challenge to them. Through ‘Operation Jhaadu’, AAP’s big leaders will be arrested, they are being arrested and in the coming days, AAP’s bank accounts will be frozen,” said Kejriwal, adding that accounts have not been frozen so far as the BJP is afarid that such a move may bring more support for the AAP during elections.

AAP accuses Delhi Police of planting stories against AAP

In the continuous charge against the Delhi Police, the AAP also accused the force of planting stories against AAP.

Speaking at a press conference, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said that while the police have planted stories that CCTV footage was deleted, the CCTV cameras were seized on Saturday itself.

“Yesterday (Saturday), they seized the DVR of cameras installed at the entry gates, boundary walls, and today (Sunday), they seized the DVR of cameras installed in other parts of the house. The police are planting stories that the CCTV (camera) footage has been deleted but they have already seized it,” said Bharadwaj, as per PTI.

Bharadwaj added that the details of the FIR and police diary in which the initial call by Maliwal to the police was recorded was also leaked.

“The call was made by Swati Maliwal on May 13 and, within no time, the image of the daily diary entry in the matter was all over the media. The FIR in the case has been registered under Section 354 (B), which is a sensitive matter that pertains to a woman, but the FIR was circulated everywhere. However, Bibhav Kumar, the accused, and AAP did not have a copy of the FIR,” said Bharadwaj, as per the agency.

Bharadwaj further said, “The police are planting stories at the behest of the BJP to tarnish the image of AAP before the elections.”
