The father of the 31-year-old junior doctor who was raped and murdered in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has said that his daughter would have been alive today if West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had taken action against Sandip Ghosh three years ago.
Ghosh, who has been arrested by the CBI over financial irregularities at RG Kar and the rape and murder of Abhaya, has been on the wrong side of the law since 2021, the father said.
“In the year 2021 also, many allegations were levelled against former principal Sandeep Ghosh, if the Chief Minister had taken action against Sandeep Ghosh then, today my daughter would have been alive,” he said.
In fact, a junior doctor protesting in Kolkata told Firstpost that RG Kar has long been the hub of corruption.
Dr Anustup Mukherjee from Kolkata Medical College and a representative of the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front, said, “There is nothing to deny the fact that the amount of financial scam that was going around in RGK for the last 3-4 years was huge.”
“There is a good amount of suspicion that we are now coming to know from some sources that the financial irregularities might be the reason behind the motive of the incident (rape and murder) that happened,” he added.
Meanwhile, the victims’ parents have expressed dissatisfaction with Mamata’s work in solving the case of their daughter. They, however, have faith in the Central Bureau of Investigation’s probe, saying, “Whoever is connected to this murder in some way or those who are involved in tampering with evidence, all are under investigation.”
Ghosh was first arrested by the investigative agency in an alleged financial irregularities case. In fact, the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which also probing practices of corruption inside the hospital, has conducted multiple raids including in the ex-principal’s ancestral home in Kolkata.
