Congress leader Shashi Tharoor commended Narendra Modi after President Donald Trump said the Indian prime minister is a better negotiator than him.
Speaking to reporters, Tharoor stated that Modi’s visit to the United States resulted in some beneficial consequences for the Indian people.
While welcoming PM Modi to the White House, President Trump praised him as a wonderful leader who is doing an excellent job in India.
US President Trump also added, “He is a much tougher negotiator than me, and he is a much better negotiator than me. There is not even a contest.”
Referring to the comment, Tharoor said, “To hear a man like Donald Trump, whose defence secretary yesterday (Thursday) called him the greatest negotiator in the world, announcing that the Indian prime minister was a better negotiator than he was, that sounds like something Mr Modi can put in the bank, that sounds very good.”
On Saturday, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor defended his admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his meeting with US President Donald Trump, saying that he spoke with India’s interests in mind and that “we cannot always speak only in terms of party interest.”
