At least six schools in India’s capital Delhi received bomb threats on Friday, forcing suspension of classes and prompting police as well as fire department officials to carry out extensive search of the premises.

The latest threats come within a week after at least 44 schools received similar emails on December 9 which were declared as hoaxes by police.

The schools in Delhi which received bomb threats are:

1 – Bhatnagar International School, Paschim Vihar

2 – Cambridge School, Shri Niwas Puri

3 – Delhi Public School (DPS), Amar Colony in East of Kailash

4 – South Delhi Public School, Defence Colony

5 – Delhi Police Public School, Safdarjung

6 – Venkateshwar Global School, Rohini

Soon after checking the bomb threat email, the schools informed police and also sent messages to guardians to not send their children for classes or take them back if they already reached.

A report by PTI quoted a police source as saying that the emails were received at 12:54 am on Friday in which the sender mentioned “parent-teachers’ meeting” and “sports day” activities in the schools.

The sender also mentioned that the “schools will face bomb blasts” on Friday and Saturday, the source further said.

Cambridge School principal Madhavi Goswami said she was checking the school mail, as routine, when she stumbled upon the threat mail following which she informed the police around 5:50 am.

“Police worked proactively. We were assured by the Delhi Police regarding the investigation. We informed the parents that classes will be online for today,” she said.

One of the guards at South Delhi Public School, Karmveer, said after coming across the threat email, the authorities told him to ask the parents coming to the school with their children to return.

“I received the message at 7:20 am following which we started to ask the parents coming to school with their children to return. The school administration had declared that all the students should be asked to return. Only a few children were already inside the campus, and they were also sent back,” he said.

Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, termed the bomb threat emails as “extremely serious and worrying”.

“This is the second time this week that Delhi schools have received bomb threats, which is extremely serious and worrying. If this continues, how badly will it affect the children? What will happen to their studies?” Kejriwal said in a post on X written in Hindi.

The AAP also hit out at the Central government and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, claiming that crime was at its peak in Delhi now.

“Amit Shah ji, wake up now. Crime has now reached its peak in Delhi. Every day there are threats of bombing schools. Those who threatened also know that Home Minister Amit Shah is sleeping. No action will be taken against him,” the party wrote on X in Hindi.
