Packed hall, Modi-Modi chants, that’s how a large number of Indians in Russia greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he got up on dais to address them in his first visit to Moscow in his third term as PM and amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The Indian prime minister started his speech greeting the crowd as ‘Priye Moscowa’ and thanking them for attending the event. “I have not come here alone, I have come with a lot of things. I have brought with me the fragrance of the soil of India. I have brought with me the love of 140 crore countrymen,” he said.

During his over 40 minutes address to the diaspora in Moscow, PM Modi on Tuesday said India’s relationship with Russia is based on mutual trust and respect.

“On hearing the word Russia, the first word that comes to every Indian’s mind is India’s partner in happiness and sorrow, India’s trusted friend, we call it ‘Dosti’,” PM Modi said.

‘India-Russia friendship always been in Plus’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi further said that no matter how much the temperature goes down to minus during the winter season in Russia “India-Russia friendship has always been in Plus, it has always been warm.”

“This relationship is built on the strong foundation of Mutual Trust and Mutual Respect…,” he said.

Lauding the diaspora in Russia, PM Modi said: “I am happy that India and Russia are working shoulder to shoulder to give new energy to Global Prosperity. All of you present here are giving new heights to the relations between India and Russia. You have contributed to Russian society with your hard work and honesty.”

PM Modi also told the diaspora that each one of them is the country’s brand ambassador.

Russia to get two new Indian consulates

In his address, PM Modi also revealed that two new consulates will be opened in Russia to make travelling and business between the two countries faster.

“I want to share some good news with you all. We have decided to open new consulates in Kazan and Yekaterinburg. This will enhance travel and business trades,” PM Modi said.

During his address to the diaspora, PM Modi also reminded that July 9 marks one month of Modi 3.0.

“This is my first conversation with the Indian diaspora after forming the government for the third time. Today, on July 9 and it has been a full month since I took oath as the PM of India for the third time and I took a vow that I will work with three times more strength, at three times more speed and it is also a coincidence that the number three is also present in many of the government’s goals. The government’s goal is to make India the third largest economy in the world in the third term,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi landed in Moscow on Monday (July 8) for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit.

Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov received PM Modi at the Vnukovo-II Airport. PM Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the airport.
