The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Friday, reacted to Congress’ decision of fielding Rahul Gandhi from Rae Bareli and not Amethi and said the grand old party has realised that “Rahul stands no chance in front of Smriti Irani.”
Congress has given up Amethi
In a post on X, BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla said, “With Rahul Gandhi running away and surrendering out of Amethi and fielding somebody like KL Sharma, it is evident that Congress has given up on Amethi.”
Its 80/80 for BJP-NDA in UP
“Congress has now confirmed that its 80/80 for BJP-NDA in Uttar Pradesh and 400 paar for NDA when even the first family shows no courage to fight in Amethi!” the BJP leader said.

Rae Bareli too will reject Rahul Gandhi
The BJP leader further said Congress has sent Rahul to “what they consider a safer Rae Bareli!”
“But isn’t that a complete fraud on people of Wayanad? Not that he will win in Rae Bareli but it just shows ‘use and throw’ mindset of Congress,” Poonawalla said.
“Rae Bareli too will reject this behaviour and opt for an MP who stays with them and doesn’t desert them,” the BJP spokesperson said.
Rahul contesting from Rae Bareli because he is losing from Wayanad
Intensifying attack on the Congress scion, BJP national secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa said: “Rahul Gandhi is losing from Wayanad and this is why is going to to contest from Rae Bareli.”
Rahul Gandhi will have to leave Rae Bareli
“Earlier, he accepted defeat from Amethi, now he is running away from Wayanad. The situation is such that no one from Congress wants to contest from Amethi, which was Congress’ traditional seat… Rahul Gandhi will also have to leave Rae Bareli, and people will give him a befitting reply, he will be defeated in Rae Bareli too,” Sirsa added.
18th Lok Sabha will miss Rahul Gandhi
Another BJP leader from Telangana’s Nizamabad Arvind Dharmapuri said, “I feel that the 18th Lok Sabha will miss Rahul Gandhi. He will not win in either (Wayanad and Rae Bareli) seats.”
Congress has fielded Kishori Lal Sharma, a close aide of the Gandhi family, from the Amethi Lok Sabha seat.
Sharma was the key person who looked after the two prestigious constituencies – Amethi and Rae Bareli in the absence of the Gandhis.
Voting on both the seats – Rae Bareli and Amethi – in the fifth of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections 2024 on May 20.
