The much-awaited inauguration of a new section of the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) is set to take place on Sunday, January 5, marking a significant milestone in public transport. This new 12-kilometer stretch will connect Sahibabad in Ghaziabad to New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, passing through Anand Vihar. With this addition, the operational stretch of the RRTS will expand from 42 kilometers to 54 kilometers, featuring 11 stations in total.

The entire 82-kilometer Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor aims to reduce the travel time between Delhi and Meerut to nearly an hour, making it a game-changer for daily commuters. Ahead of the inauguration, the Ghaziabad traffic police have issued a detailed advisory to minimize traffic disruptions during the high-profile event.

The PM will be seen gracing the occasion as he travels from Sahibabad in the newly launched Namo Bharat train at around 11 a.m. This means restrictions on traffic movements will be on several routes between 7 a.m. until the culmination of the programme. Some of the key areas to be avoided are the stretch between Mohan Nagar and Hindon Air Force Station entry gate, routes leading to UP Gate, Vasundhara, and Vaishali. Commuters are advised to take alternative routes.
The traffic police have also shared helpline numbers and contact details of senior traffic officials to help manage the situation. The helpline can be reached at 9643322904 or 0120-2986100.

The RRTS has already hogged the headlines by its trial runs between Sahibabad and Anand Vihar, which have started in October 2024. This expansion, after being certified by the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety, promises further ease in commuting and better connectivity in the region.

At present, the Namo Bharat trains run between Sahibabad and Meerut South over a 42 km stretch covering nine stations such as Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Modi Nagar. This Sunday’s opening will not only extend the route but also mark the RRTS as the transformative solution to urban transit by paving the way for more efficient and faster travel in the National Capital Region.
