India has emerged as a crucial hub for developers, with its community rapidly growing on platforms like GitHub, which is owned by Microsoft. Currently, India boasts 13.2 million developers on GitHub, making it the fastest-growing market. Projections suggest that India will surpass the United States as the largest developer community on the platform by 2027. Additionally, India ranks second globally for generative AI projects hosted on GitHub, highlighting the nation’s potential in shaping the future of AI-driven solutions.
Nadella underscored the transformative impact of the next generation of AI, which is reshaping how developers create solutions worldwide, including in India. He expressed enthusiasm over the innovative ways Indian developers are using Microsoft’s technology to build tools and products for both domestic and global challenges.
Microsoft’s long-standing presence in India has been instrumental in fostering this growth. Since setting up operations in Hyderabad, the company has expanded its workforce to 10,000 employees and made significant infrastructure investments, including developing a 600 MW data centre capacity in the region.
