Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to respond to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s speech on Tuesday, a day after Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s statements on Hinduism enraged the BJP and its supporters.

The ruckus began when Gandhi waved to the Treasury Bench and stated that “those who call themselves Hindus talk about violence”.

He went on to criticise the Centre for failing to meet farmers’ requests and the ongoing NEET controversy.

In his first speech as Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi picked up the threads of his election campaign to counter the Government on several fronts, from accusing it of creating an atmosphere of fear to alleging that it had spread violence and hatred in the name of Hinduism; from the crisis in Manipur to how demonetisation had wreaked havoc on employment.

At the same time, Gandhi concluded his almost two-hour address by stating that the Opposition was willing to cooperate with the Narendra Modi government in the national good.
