Delhi’s Tihar Jail on Tuesday received a bomb threat email and soon extensive searches were initiated inside the prison that has high-profile inmates, including some key politicians.

The bomb threat email received by Tihar Jail authorities was similar to the warnings sent to hospitals on Tuesday morning and schools, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport earlier this month.

The Tihar Jail administration alerted the Delhi Police soon after it received the bomb threat.

Some of the political leaders imprisoned in Tihar Jail include Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain, Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) leader K Kavitha who are in custody for their alleged role in money laundering case.

Last Friday (May 10), Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor, who was also imprisoned in Tihar Jail, was granted interim bail till June 1.

‘Conman’ Sukesh Chandrasekhar, accused of cheating and extortion, is also currently lodged in Tihar Jail.

On Tuesday morning, four hospitals in the national capital received bomb threat emails. These hospitals were Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital in Ashok Vihar, Shri Dada Dev Hospital in Dabri, Hedgewar Hospital in Farsh Bazaar, and GTB Hospital.

On Sunday, IGI airport and more than half a dozen government hospitals in Delhi received bomb threats through email.

On May 1, nearly 100 schools in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) received hoax bomb emails, triggering panic among students, parents and administrations.

The bomb threats to schools were received from a Russia-based mailing service, meanwhile, Sunday’s threats to hospitals and two other installations were received from a Europe-based mailing service company ‘beeble.com’, officials said.
