Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Economic Survey 2024-25 in Parliament at 12 PM on Friday (January 31). The Economic Survey is a pre-budget document detailing the state of the economy over the last fiscal year and is presented a day before the budget.
The numbers in the survey will be crucial to watch, given recent data indicating a slowdown in business growth due to weaker services demand, Reuters reported.
The document is expected to provide an assessment of key developments such as slowing growth, the declining value of the rupee against the US dollar, and subdued consumption demand.
As the name suggests, it is a survey of the economy and provides a detailed report on the health and all aspects of the economy. The Survey is expected to cover key sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, and industry. It provides a comprehensive overview of the country’s economic performance over the past financial year.
The document will also highlight areas of growth and identify potential challenges. It serves as a precursor to the Union Budget, offering insights that inform budgetary allocations and policy decisions.
It is a crucial tool for policymakers and offers policy suggestions to address economic challenges and accelerate growth. These insights help shape the Union Budget and guide future economic policies.
The Economic Survey is prepared by the Ministry of Economic Affairs under the guidance of the Chief Economic Advisor. It is presented to both Houses of Parliament during the Budget Session.
The document will be available for download on the official India Budget website upon release.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the Union Budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 on February 1 at 11:00 AM IST. It will be the 8th consecutive budget she will present.
