The Supreme Court on Thursday issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA) in response to a fresh plea filed by a learning app that claimed “inconsistent” calculation of marks on the OMR sheets in the NEET-UG 2024 exam.
A vacation bench of Justices Manoj Misra and SVN Bhatti sought a response by July 8, when the hearing of the matter, along with other petitions, will take place.
The petition also questioned the exam body’s decision to provide OMR sheets to some students while denying it to others.
The bench sought NTA’s response on the time limit to raise the grievances pertaining to the OMR sheets.
“Normally in such matters if OMR sheets are uploaded and if there is any grievance, then there is a time limit,” the bench said.
“Let us know if there is a timeline to provide the OMR sheets. As of now, we will tag it. Let NTA seek instructions on this,” India Today report quoted the court as saying.
The court tagged the plea with other petitions which will be taken up for hearing on July 8.
The NTA conducted the NEET examination on May 5 across 4,750 centers and was taken by around 24 lakh candidates. Although the results were expected to be declared on June 14, they were announced earlier on June 4, as the evaluation of the answer sheets was completed ahead of schedule.
Allegations of a question paper leak and the granting of grace marks to over 1,500 medical aspirants sparked protests and led to the filing of cases in high courts as well as the Supreme Court.
The top court has listed petitions allegeing paper leak, unfair means and malpractices for July 8.
