Veteran investor Mark Mobius praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday for his ability to engage with all sides of the global political spectrum, calling him a leader “capable of almost anything” and deserving of a Nobel Peace Prize.

In an interview to IANS news agency, 88-year-old Mobius said that PM Modi has the potential to play a key role as a peacemaker in a world facing significant turmoil, particularly amid the ongoing conflicts in West Asia and Ukraine.

“PM Modi is a great leader as well as a great human being. He’s a very, very good person. By the way, his role internationally, I think, will grow in importance going forward because he is able to have a dialogue with all sides of the political spectrum globally, and he could become a very important peacemaker going forward,” IANS quoted Mobius as saying.

Mobius, who is renowned for pioneering the first emerging markets fund, said that when it comes to the Nobel Peace Prize, PM Modi “is really capable of almost anything” and deserves the global award.

Mobius said India has demonstrated its ability to remain neutral and fair, placing it in a strong position to act as a global mediator for peace.

“PM Modi is very well qualified to be a key mediator in the world today,” the veteran investor was quoted as saying.

While maintaining neutrality in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, PM Modi has consistently pushed for a peaceful resolution, reinforcing India’s commitment to global stability.

His visit to Ukraine in August — the first by an Indian prime minister since 1992 — highlighted India’s proactive role in promoting peace.

When asked about similarities between himself and PM Modi, Mobius said, “We both focus on looking forward, not looking backwards, and are more optimistic about what’s happening globally.”
