Mohan Charan Majhi is set to be Odisha’s next Chief Minister. He will be BJP’s first CM in the state after the party won the elections for the first time, ending 24 years rule of Naveen Patnaik’s party BJD.

Majhi’s name for the post of new Odisha Chief minister was announced in the BJP Legislative Party meeting held at BJP state party office in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, June 11.

The name of Majhi was announced after the Central observers – Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Bhupebdra Yadav – discussed with all senior leaders and newly elected MPs, MLAs.

Majhi’s name was announced days after the BJP defeated Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal (BJD) by winning 78 out of 147 seats in the Odisha Assembly.

“I bow down to the people of Odisha who elected the BJP in the Assembly elections. I express my gratitude for trusting the party to bring in a change in the state. I pledge to make Odisha the number 1 state in the nation in terms of development and progress,” Majhi said.

Odisha to get 2 deputy CMs

Pravati Parida and Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo will be the Deputy Chief Ministers of Odisha.

KV Singh Deo is a six time MLA and a senior BJP leader, while Parida is the first time MLA in Odisha Legislative Assembly from Nimapara Constituency.

When will Odisha CM take oath?

Majhi, 52, will take oath as the Chief Minister of Odisha on Wednesday, June 12 at Janata Maidan, Bhubaneswar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be present at Majhi’s swearing-in ceremony.

Who is Mohan Charan Majhi, Odisha’s next CM?

Majhi is a prominent member of the tribal community and has a strong RSS link. He has extensively worked in the BJP’s Odisha state unit.

Majhi was first elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from the Keonjhar constituency in 2000. He represented the constituency twice between 2000 to 2009.

In 2019, he was elected again to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Keonjhar.

In his tenure as a four-time MLA, Majhi has earned a reputation for his dedicated public service and exceptional organisational skills.

Majhi has also been the Chief Whip of the BJP Legislative Party and has played a pivotal role in BJP’s election strategy.
