At least seven independent candidates have won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The leading contenders are Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa, engineer Rashid and Amritpal Singh, a convicted pro-Khalistani among others.
Amritpal Singh (Khadoor Sahib): Amritpal Singh, a radical Sikh preacher and independent candidate, won by 197120 votes in the Khadoor Sahib constituency. Amritpal, the leader of the “Waris Punjab De” group, is in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act.
Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa (Faridkot): Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa who is the elder son of Beant Singh, one of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s assassins has won the Faridkot Lok Sabha constituency by 70053 votes.
Patel Umeshbhai Babubhai (Daman & Diu): Independent candidate Patel Umeshbhai Babubhai has won the Lok Sabha constituency by 42523 votes, defeating BJP candidate Lalubhai Babubhai Patel.
Mohmad Haneefa (Ladakh): Independent candidate Mohmad Haneefa won the Ladakh Lok Sabha constituency, defeating his nearest Congress rival Tsering Namgyal by a margin of 27,906 votes. Haneefa secured 65,303 votes against his Congress rival’s 37,397 votes. The BJP’s Tashi Gyalson bagged 31,956 votes in the triangular contest.
Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav (Purnia): Pappu Yadav is an Independent (IND) candidate from 12. Purnia (General) Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar has won by 23847 votes defeating JD(U) candidate Santosh Kumar.
Vishal Patil (Sangli): Vishal Patil is set to win the Sangli Lok Sabha constituency as an Independent candidate after failing to get a Congress ticket. He was leading with 100259 votes.
Sheikh Abdul Rashid (Baramulla): Former Chief Minister of the erstwhile state Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah was defeated by an Independent candidate Sheikh Abdul Rashid by 204142 votes in the Baramulla seat in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
