The National Investigation Agency (NIA), on Monday, took over the probe into three cases of fresh violence in Manipur.
The NIA has been given the charge of the investigation after a review of the situation in
Manipur by the Union home ministry.
The Manipur government has already handed over the files of case registered at Jiribam Police Station on November 8 to the NIA that pertains to the murder and burning of a Hmar woman from Jairolpokpi (Zairawn) Jiribam district on November 7 by fully armed militants around 9 pm at her residence.
The NIA re-registered the FIRs under various sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), arms act and unlawful activities prevention act.
The incident resulted in escalation of more violence in the state.
Six members of a Meitei family three women and three children – from the same village were reported missing, with officials saying that they were likely abducted by militants. The decomposed bodies of two children, including an infant, and a woman were found near the Manipur-Assam border on Friday.
The second case taken over by NIA on Monday is linked to the November 11 attack by armed militants on the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) post situated in Jakuradhor Karong and Borobekra police station.
The case was registered at Borobekra Police station.
The third case, also registered at Boroberkra Police Station, is related to the November 11 incident at Jakuradhor Karong. The FIR was filed against unknown armed militants who fired on the Borobekra police station, residential houses located at Jakuradhor Karong and set ablaze several houses and shops.
The development comes amid Union Home Minister Amit Shah chairing back-to-back review meetings in national capital New Delhi and has directed the security officials as well as Chief Minister N Biren Singh-led Manipur government to ensure peace in the state.
Since Saturday (November 18), Manipur has been witnessing fresh unrest after violent protests erupted, increasing tension in the Imphal valley.
Protests were carried out after recovery of six decomposed bodies linked to the recent shootout in Jiribam, where 10 Kuki militants were killed.
Civil society groups, led by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), warned both the central and the central government.

“All the MLAs and other leaders must sit together to take decisive action to resolve the present crisis at the earliest,” COCOMI spokesperson Khuraijam Athouba said.
“If they do not take any decisive action that satisfies the people, the government will bear the brunt of the people’s discontent and anger,” he warned.
Meanwhile, protesters targeted the ancestral residence of Manipur CM Singh and homes of three state ministers and six MLAs.

As per official reports, protesters on Saturday set ablaze several properties of lawmakers, including PWD Minister Govindas Konthoujam’s residence in Ningthoukhong, BJP MLA Y Radheshyam’s house in Langmeidong Bazar, BJP MLA Paonam Brojen’s house in Thoubal district, and Congress MLA Th Lokeshwar’s property in Imphal East district.
