In the Sena vs Sena battle, the faction led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is expected to win Maharashtra, exit poll results showed Wednesday.

The high-octane elections in the third-largest state of India concluded on November 20 with the official results slated for Saturday (November 23). Months of painstaking campaigning may bore fruit for the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance that includes Shiv Sena (Shinde) and NCP(AP).

Poll of polls gave Mahayuti the edge in Maharashtra with the alliance projected to win 151 out of 288 seats, surpassing the 145 majority mark. Meanwhile, the Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi has some hope with projections showing it win 129 seats.

Pollster People’s Pulse has, in fact, predicted an upper limit of 195 seats for the BJP-led alliance. It, on the other hand, has predicted a lower limit of 85 seats for MVA, suggesting that it may or may not be able to cross the 100-mark.

Matrize has predicted that Mahayuti is set to win between 150 and 170 seats while for MVA it has projected 110-130 seats.

Meanwhile, Dainik Bhaskar’s predictions suggest a neck-to-neck fight between the two alliances with the pollster forecasting 125-140 seats for Mahayuti and 135-150 seats for MVA.

Overjoyed by the exit polls predicting a favourable result for BJP, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “BJP will get the numbers and we will win. I feel that whenever the voting percentage increases, BJP is the only one to benefit from it, so I believe that the increased voting percentage will benefit BJP-Mahayuti.”

The MVA, however, disagrees.

Maharashtra Congress Chief Nana Patole, who contested from the Sakoli Assembly constituency, is confident that the Congress-Shiv Sena (UBT)-NCP (SP) will return to power in the state.

“MVA will for the govt in Maharashtra. We will form govt in the majority. The (exit poll) numbers on exit polls will be proved wrong,” he said adding that the case of Haryana will repeat in Maharashtra where the exit poll numbers projected a landslide victory for BJP as well.
