The prime suspect in the Bengaluru woman murder case, 31-year-old Mukti Ranjan Das, has allegedly hanged himself from a tree in Odisha where he stayed. However, a purported suicide note was found in a diary that was lying next to his body in which he confessed in details about killing his lover, 29-year-old Mahalakshmi, and chopping her body into 59 pieces.

In his three-page suicide note death note, which is now in the custody of Odisha’s Bhadrak Police, Ray confessed to killing Mahalakshmi on September 3 in her one-room apartment in Bengaluru’s Vyalikaval, a report by NDTV cited sources as saying.

Ray allegedly died by suicide on the morning of Wednesday (September 25).

‘She attacked me & I killed her’

A source to CNN-News18 said the purported suicide letter began with “I did it (murder)”. He allegedly killed his lover Mahalakshmi as he was fed up with her “violent behaviour and arguments.”

“Mahalakshmi attacked me and that angered me and I hit her and killed her,” Ray allegedly wrote in his suicide note.

“I cut her into multiple pieces,” he further said.

As per Bengaluru Police, Ray and Mahalakshmi were in a relationship for a while. They met on September 3 and were believed to have got into a serious argument after she forced him to marry her.

As the argument turned violent, Mahalakshmi allegedly started hitting and biting Ray. He hit her back, leading to her death.

In February, Mahalakshmi’s estranged husband, Hemant Das had filed a case against her, alleging that she attacked him, bit his hand after he refused her money.

Chopped body after being fed up with her conduct

The NDTV report quoted sources as saying that Ray in his letter said, “I was fed up with her conduct. I fought with her over personal matters and Mahalakshmi assaulted me. Enraged by her act, I killed her.”

“After killing her, I had chopped her body into 59 pieces and kept them in the fridge. I have done this act after being fed up with her conduct,” he further penned his death note.

‘Choked her to death’

After committing the crime, Ray allegedly told his brother about it, who suggested he should leave the city.

After a few days, Ray returned to his home in Bhadrak district of Odisha. A report by The Indian Express quoted Ray’s mother as saying that he arrived at his home around 10 pm on Tuesday (September 24).

“He looked tense, so I asked him why, and he said that he had committed a mistake. When I pressed him, he said he had murdered a woman in Bengaluru, where he was staying to earn a living,” Ray’s mother, aged about 60, said.

When she asked him the reason, Ray allegedly told her that Mahalakhsmi had taken his money and a gold chain.

“My son said he choked her to death,” Ray’s mother claimed, saying that he did not mention anything about chopping her body.

Ray’s mother also claimed that days before the crime, her son was threatened by a group of youth at Mahalakshmi’s behest.

Bought heavy-bladed knife to chop Mahalakshmi’s body

As per a report by Deccan Herald, after killing Mahalakshmi, Ray went to a local store to purchase a heavy-bladed knife to dismember the body.

After buying the knife, Ray returned to Mahalakshmi’s home and began butchering her. As per police, after chopping her body into pieces, he cleaned up pools of blood.

The Bengaluru woman murder case came to light on Saturday (September 21) after neighbours noticed a foul smell emanating from Mahalakshmi’s flat. They then informed the police who later contacted her family.

Mahalakshmi’s mother and sister visited her flat and were shocked to find her dead and her body chopped into pieces and stuffed in a single-door fridge. The body had been infested by maggots, police said.
