A Delhi Court on Monday rejected Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea seeking private consultation with his doctor daily via video conference.

The plea filed by the jailed chief minister also sought the administration of insulin as concerns over Kejriwal’s health gain momentum. The Delhi CM suffers from Type II diabetes.

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court, however, asked the Tihar jail administration to provide Kejriwal with the requisite medical treatment. Meanwhile, on his request for the administration of insulin, Special Judge Kaveri Baweja said a medical board will be constituted by the All India Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will decide if the chief minister requires it.

The Enforcement Directorate, which arrested Kejriwal on March 21 over the alleged Liquor Policy Case, last week claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party leader was “creating a ground for bail” by deliberately eating mangoes, aloo puri and sweets as well as having tea with sugar to raise his blood sugar level.

Following ED’s assertion, several AAP leaders have come out to criticise the probe agency with Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj saying that BJP is pushing Kejriwal to “die slowly” by denying him access to insulin and consultations with doctors.

Kejriwal writes to Tihar Jail’s superintendent

In a letter to the superintendent of Tihar Jail, Kejriwal wrote, “Today I read in the newspapers that you have made certain false and misleading statements regarding my health.”

On the statement that the issue of insulin was never raised by Kejriwal, the AAP leader said, “This is false. I have raised the issue of insulin for 10 days, every day, multiple times. I showed my high sugar levels to every doctor who came to see me. I showed them that there were 3 peaks in the sugar level every day – between 250-320. I also showed them that my fasting sugar level was in the range of 160-200 every day. Almost every day, I demanded insulin. Then how could you make such a statement that I never raised the issue of insulin?

Earlier, reports said that AIIMS doctors assured that there is no serious concern about Kejriwal’s health. On this the Delhi CM said, “AIIMS doctors never assured any such thing. They said that they will see all the data and then give their advise. I am pained that you have issued false statements under political pressure. I hope that you will follow the law and constitution.”
