It’s been a week since Atishi took oath as the new chief minister of Delhi. However, Arvind Kejriwal has yet to vacate the chief minister’s official residence in Civil Lines.
Aam Aadmi Party leaders said on Saturday that Kejriwal will move out of the CM’s residence soon while an intensive search for a new home is ongoing.
The AAP supremo said that he will vacate the Civil Lines home during Navratri which will commence in the first week of October.
How is house-hunting going for Kejriwal?
The search for a house for the Kejriwal family has intensified in the past few weeks as the former chief minister wants to be close to his assembly constituency New Delhi as “he intends to remain connected with the people there.”
With Delhi Assembly elections only a few months away, the AAP national convener is “keenly focused” on finding a property that will allow him to utilise his time and resources to the fullest, the party said.
A statement by AAP said that Kejriwal is looking for a home that not only acts as a base for his work but also makes it easy for him to travel to every corner of the city and connect with its people.
AAP MLAs, councillors, workers as well as the common people are offering the former chief minister accommodation, regardless of their social, economic, or political background, the party said.
Some have requested him to live with them, others have offered shared spaces, and many have provided vacant places for him to stay.
From Pitampura to Hauz Khas, people have proposed Kejriwal to stay in homes from across the national capital.
Meanwhile, the party has also requested the central government to provide an official residence to Kejriwal and his wife, children and parents.
