Indonesian President Probawo Sukianto on Saturday said his country will prioritise its relationship with India in the interest of a long-term partnership between both nations.

In a joint press conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, Probawo, said, “The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia is on land donated by the Indian government before we were recognized by many other countries in the world. We will prioritize this relationship in the interest of a long-term strategic partnership which we have agreed upon.”

The Indonesian leader is in India to be the chief guest at the 76th Republic Day to be celebrated tomorrow. “We feel very honoured that I will be the Chief Guest tomorrow at the Republic Day parade and because the first Chief Guest in India’s first Republic Day parade was President Sukarno, so this is a great honour for me,” he said.

Meanwhile, PM Modi said that India and Indonesia have decided to strengthen their ties in areas like Fintech, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and Digital Public Infrastructure. He announced that India would start contributing to the preservation of the Prambanan Hindu temple, a 9th-century old shrine located in Java, Indonesia.

“Also, the year 2025 will be celebrated as the India-ASEAN Year of Tourism. This will also promote cultural exchange and tourism between India and Indonesia. We both are committed to maintaining peace, security, prosperity and rule of law,” the prime minister said.

The Indonesian president arrived in New Delhi on Thursday night on a three-day visit, primarily to attend India’s 76th Republic Day celebrations at Kartavya Path on Sunday.

It is Subianto’s first visit to India as the head of state.

He will be the fourth Indonesian president to attend India’s Republic Day celebrations. Sukarno, the first president of Indonesia, was the chief guest at India’s first Republic Day celebrations in 1950.

A 352-member marching and band contingent from Indonesia will be participating in the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path.
