At the age of 36, Ram Mohan Naidu has become India’s youngest Union minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA 3.0 Cabinet. The TDP MP from Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam Lok Sabha seat has been made Union Minister of Civil Aviation on Monday and he replaced BJP’s Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Ram Mohan Naidu also holds the post of national general secretary within the TDP and had served as the party’s floor leader in the previous Lok Sabha.

Who is Ram Mohan Naidu, India’s youngest Union minister?

Ram Mohan Naidu is the son of former Union Minister K Yerran Naidu.

In 2024, Ram Mohan Naidu recorded his third consecutive victory from Srikakulam seat. He won against the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party’s Tilak Perada by a margin of 327,901 votes.

Ram Mohan Naidu contested and won his first election in 2014 when he was 26 years old, becoming the second youngest Member of Parliament (MP) in the Lok Sabha at that time. He won again in 2019.

Why Ram Mohan Naidu got into politics this early?

Ram Mohan Naidu completed his schooling from Delhi Public School, RK Puram, after which he got his graduation in electrical engineering from Purdue University. He then completed his Master’s degree in Business Administration from Long Island University, New York, USA in 2011.

Initially, he was drawn to a career in Singapore, but he returned to his hometown after his father died in a road accident in 2012.

In 2014, Ram Mohan Naidu contested from his father’s Srikakulam constituency for TDP and was elected as an MP.

His father, a senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) functionary, had been a minister for rural development in the United Front Government headed by HD Deve Gowda and IK Gujral between 1996 and 1998.

In the 16th Lok Sabha, Ram Mohan served as a member of various standing committees on the Ministry of Tourism, Home Affairs, Railways, and Welfare of Other Backward Classes.

As an MP, Ram Mohan Naidu had introduced a private members’ Bill to draw the Centre’s attention towards the Andhra Pradesh Railway Zone with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters.

When TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu was arrested in 2023 over his alleged involvement in a skill development scam, his son Lokesh along with Ram Mohan Naidu played a key role in navigating the political circles of Delhi.
