The Opposition INDIA bloc on Tuesday held a protest in Delhi over Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s deteriorating health in jail.
The protest was attended by several leaders including NCP-SP supremo Sharad Pawar, Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
There has been a controversy surrounding the Delhi chief minister’s health with supporters claiming that he has significantly lost weight during his time in jail while Tihar authorities refuting them.
Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, who was present at the INDIA bloc protest, said, “Thankful to God that nothing untoward happened to my husband. His life is in danger.”
“They have not put Kejriwal ji behind bars but the democracy has been put behind bars. The entire INDIA bloc is with Kejriwal,” Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said.
Sharing the stage with other opposition leaders, former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav said, “I had said one thing before the elections that there are many such organisations with Delhi (Central Govt), which harass politicians from time to time, those organisations do not let them get justice. If and when we come to power, we will end such organisations forever. In our democracy, no one can be falsely accused.”
CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury, meanwhile, echoed his bloc partners in saying the central government is misusing agencies by making wrongful arrests.
Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 over the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam. The leader came out of jail briefly during the Lok Sabha election period but went back as soon as they were over in June.
How is Kejriwal’s health?
Jail authorities and AAP have time and again engaged in debates about the physical wellness of the chief minister.
Earlier this month, AAP leaders claimed that Kejriwal lost 8.8 kgs as he was infected with a “serious disease”.
Tihar jail authorities, on the other hand, have said that the leader has lost only 2 kgs and is being monitored regularly.
