Farooq Abdullah, leader of the National Conference and former Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, recently visited the Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra. During his visit to an ashram, he joined devotees in singing a popular bhajan, “Tune Mujhe Bulaya Sherawaliye.”

A man singing the bhajan handed the microphone to Abdullah, who cheerfully completed the lines, “Main aaya, main aaya Sheran waaliye.” A video of the moment, showing the 87-year-old leader wearing a traditional red scarf associated with Vaishno Devi pilgrims, has gone viral on social media.

During his visit, Abdullah also addressed the ongoing protests in Katra over the construction of a ropeway project. He urged the authorities managing the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine to ensure their actions do not harm the local population.

“The livelihood of people living in these hills depends on the blessings of Mata Vaishno Devi,” Abdullah said, expressing solidarity with locals protesting against the project. He emphasised that the voices of the people must be heard, as they have the power to shape governments.

Abdullah added, “Those in power must not forget the people’s struggles. When the power of God prevails, everything else diminishes. Just look at what’s happening in California.”
