Former trainee IAS officer Puja Khedkar has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court order rejecting her anticipatory bail plea last month. He came to the limelight last year for allegedly cheating and wrongly availing of OBC and disability quota benefits in the civil services examination 2022.
In December last month, the High Court had said the charges against her are a “classic example of fraud committed not only against an authority but also the nation at large”. The court said her intentions seemed to be to dupe authorities and that “her steps (were) part of a larger conspiracy”. Khedkar, it observed, is “unfit for appointment”.
Now, the former IAS trainee has told the apex court that the FIR against her discloses the offences which are based on documents and applications forms already in possession of the prosecution, Bar and Bench reported. Hence, no further custodial interrogation is not required. In her petition before the top court, Khedkar called the high court order ‘erroneous’. A bench is likely to hear the matter on Wednesday.
In July 2024, the UPSC revoked Khedkar’s selection as a junior government officer and barred her from appearing for the civil services exam in the future. After two months, the Union government sacked Khedkar. Khedkar has denied all charges against her and claimed she is being targeted since she made a sexual harassment charge against her senior.
