In a fresh salvo at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal has said that the party members are being pressurised to talk foul about her and leak her personal photos to break her.
Maliwal has accused Bibhav Kumar, the personal assistant (PA) of Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, of assaulting her at the CM’s residence when he was present in the house. The Delhi Police has lodged an FIR in the case and has arrested Kumar.
The AAP has termed the episode as a conspiracy of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has accused Maliwal of working as a pawn of the BJP.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Maliwal on Wednesday said that a senior leader of the party called her and informed of all that’s going on in the party.
“The senior leader told me how everyone is under huge pressure to talk foul about Swati and to leak her personal photos to break her. It is being said that whoever will support her will be thrown out of the party. While someone has been given the duty to do a press conference, someone has been given the duty to tweet. Some have also been given the duty of call volunteers in the United States to dig something about me. Some beat reporteres close to the accused have been given the duty to produce fake sting operations,” said Maliwal in Hindi.
‘It’s sad a woman minister is doing character assassination’
In an apparent remark at AAP leader and Delhi minister Atishi, Maliwal said that it is sad that a woman minister is doing character assassination of a former colleague with a smile on her face.
Maliwal further said that everyone is afraid of the accused, Kumar, and no one is daring to take a stand against him.
“I am not angry with them (AAP leaders). The accused is a very powerful man. Even the senior-most leaders are afraid of them. No one dares to take a stand against him. I don’t expect anything from anyone. I am said that a woman minister of Delhi is doing character assassination of a former colleague while laughing,” said Maliwal.
Atishi had accused Maliwal of being BJP’s pawn
Previously, Atishi had said that the entire Maliwal case was a conspiracy of the BJP and the party had made Maliwal a pawn.
Atishi had linked accusations of Maliwal to a corruption case against her. She said that the case has emerged as her conviction is nearing.
“This whole incident of Swati Maliwal is a conspiracy hatched by BJP. Swati Maliwal is being used as a pawn in this conspiracy as there is a case against her in ACB (Anti-Corruption Branch). The charge sheet has been made in the illegal recruitment case against her and she is near to getting convicted. This is BJP’s standard operating procedure,” said Atishi to ANI.
