In a provocative clash, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have locked horns over Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s health, igniting a heated exchange. Saxena has accused Kejriwal, currently in judicial custody at Tihar Jail, of deliberately neglecting his medical diet and prescribed medications. His claim has set off a fiery debate.

‘Wilful low calorie intake’

In a contentious letter to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, Saxena cited a report by the Superintendent of Tihar Prison that suggests Kejriwal is resorting to ‘wilful low calorie intake’ despite having ample home-cooked food at his disposal.

The LG’s office stated that Saxena recommended that prison authorities strongly advise Kejriwal to adhere to his prescribed dosage of medicine and insulin, due to his history of Type-II Diabetes Mellitus.

Saxena’s letter also pointed out irregularities in Kejriwal’s insulin administration and blood sugar monitoring, noting a significant incident on July 7 when Kejriwal reportedly refused his insulin dose before dinner. “Such irregularities heighten the risk of severe health complications,” Saxena warned, calling for stricter adherence to Kejriwal’s medical regimen.

AAP gives fiery response

In response, Delhi minister Saurabh Bhardwaj took a jab at Saxena, remarking, “As far as I know, LG sahab used to work in a cement factory. Didn’t know he was a doctor, an expert on health issues. He has never fought an election, otherwise we would have read his affidavit.”

The Aam Aadmi Party has fiercely attacked these allegations, accusing the BJP and the central government of conspiring to inflict permanent damage on Kejriwal’s health. They claim that Kejriwal has experienced significant weight loss and dangerous drops in blood sugar levels, alleging that his blood sugar fell to 50 mg/dL five times in one night, putting him at risk of slipping into a coma or suffering brain damage.

The intense political rivalry between the AAP and the BJP were on full display.
