The DGCA issued a show-cause notice to Air India on Friday after passengers fainted at the Delhi Airport on their flight to San Francisco following an 8-hour-long delay.
In the letter, the statutory body took cognizance that two flights – AI 179 from May 24 and AI 183 from May 30 – were “inordinately delayed and passengers were put to discomfort due to insufficient cooling in the cabin.”
It added that Air India has violated the provisions of Para 3.4 and Para 3.8 of CAR Section 3, Series M, Part lV on “Facilities to be provided to passengers by airlines due to denied boarding, cancellation of flights and delays in flights.”
Passengers from a delayed Air India flight to San Francisco (AI 183) reportedly fainted after waiting at the Delhi airport for over eight hours due to the lack of air conditioning.
The Delhi to San Francisco plane which was supposed to fly out on Thursday will be departing today (Friday) at 11 am, after a delay of 20 hours.
Several passengers took to X to narrate their ordeal. One such passenger said that people were initially asked to board the Air India flight and sit in the aircraft without air conditioning. After this, the passengers were asked to deplane the flight but were not allowed to enter the terminal as the immigration process was already done.
