The Delhi High Court has handed the probe related to the deaths at a coaching centre in Old Rajender Nagar to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The case is related to the deaths of three students at Rau’s IAS coaching centre at Delhi Old Rajender Nagar. They drowned after water rushed into the basement of the coaching centre’s building they were studying in.

The Delhi HC on Friday handed over the probe to the CBI after citing the seriousness of the incident and the potential involvement of corruption by public servants as reasons for this decision, according to ANI.

Moreover, the High Court directed the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to nominate a senior officer to oversee the CBI probe, as per the agency.

On July 27, water accumulated on the road from heavy rains rushed into the basement of the Rau’s IAS coaching centre in Old Rajendar Nagar. The Times of India reported that of the 30 students in the basement at the time, 27 either escaped or were rescued and three died from drowning.

Delhi govt authorities just shifting blame, says HC

In its order on Friday, the Delhi HC said the various authorities of the Delhi government mere merely shifting the responsibility and blaming one another, according to ANI.

Noting that the Delhi government had not informed the court of any structural reforms by civic authorities to address unauthorised constructions, the Delhi DC directed the formation of a committee to examine Delhi’s administrative, financial, physical infrastructure, as per the agency.

The committee will be headed by the Chief Secretary of Delhi and its members will include the Vice Chairman of the DDA, the MCD Chairman, and the Commissioner of Delhi Police.
