As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is headed to a landslide victory in the Delhi assembly elections, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has said that “people have voted for change”.
As per the latest trends at 2:30 pm, the BJP was ahead of 49 of 70 seats. Even as the Congress party has won zero seats like the previous two times, Priyanka appeared to hail the people’s mandate.
“It was very obvious from all the meetings in Delhi that people wanted change. I suppose they’ve voted for change. My congratulations to those who won. For the rest of us, it just means we have to work harder and be responsive to people’s issues,” said Priyanka.
The
BJP is set to return to power in Delhi for the first time in more than two decades. The Congress has not won a seat in Delhi assembly since 2015. The BJP has not just scored a victory but has defeated topmost AAP leaders,
such as convenor and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.
Even though Congress and AAP are allies in the INIDA bloc, they did not have any seat-sharing arrangement in the elections. Even as the party did not win a single seat, the party waged a bitter campaign against the AAP and attacked over misgovernance and corruption.
Earlier in the day,
there were hopes that Congress may win a seat this time as one of the candidates, Devender Yadav, was ahead on the Badli seat. However, he lost the lead soon.
