Aam Aadmi Party supremo and former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has lost the New Delhi assembly seat to Bhartiya Janata Party’s Parvesh Verma, with a margin of 1200 votes. Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit emerged at the third place.
The BJP is heading for a massive victory in Delhi assembly election, with a lead in 47 seats in the early trends.
Arvind Kejriwal has held the New Delhi seat since 2013. He defeated Congress leader and then Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, marking the beginning of AAP’s decade-long rule in Delhi.
The New Delhi constituency has become the hottest seat of the election. The seat was represented by heavyweight candidates, including Arvind Kejriwal from the AAP, Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma of the BJP, and Sandeep Dikshit representing the Indian National Congress (INC).
Meanwhile, Verma is also being seen as a potential future Chief Minister candidate after the win. He is also expected to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah today, MDTV reported citing sources. His father Sahib Singh Verma has been a former chief minister of Delhi.
Kejriwal’s former deputy Manish Sisodia has lost the election from Jagpura.
