Delhi has been declared a no-flying zone in the wake of the oath-taking ceremony of Narendra Modi and the Union Council of Ministers on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, President Droupadi Murmu appointed Modi as the Prime Minister of India and invited him to take oath.
The Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a statement that Murmu will administer oath to Modi and the Council of Ministers on Sunday (June 9) at 7:15 pm.
Following the announcement, the Delhi Police declared Delhi to be a no-fly zone from Saturday to Sunday.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Delhi Police said the following will be banned for two days: flying of sub-conventional aerial platforms like para-gliders, para-motors, hang-gliders, UAVs, UASS, microlight aircrafts, remotely piloted aircrafts, hot air balloons, small sized powered aircrafts, quadcopters or para-jumping from aircraft, etc.
The prohibition was being imposed to thwart criminal and anti-social elements from carrying out terrorist activities or harming the general public or dignitaries, said the Delhi Police.
Earlier in the day, the leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) elected Modi as the NDA Parliamentary Party leader. After the NDA staked claim to form the next government, Murmu, upon being satisfied that the alliance has the parliamentary majority, appointed Modi as the PM of India.
“The President, having satisfied herself on the basis of the various letters of support received, that the BJP-led NDA alliance, which is also the largest pre-election alliance, is in a position to command majority support of the newly constituted 18th Lok Sabha and to form a stable government, appointed Shri Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India exercising powers vested in her under Article 75(1) of the Constitution of India,” said a statement from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
In a separate statement, the Rashtrapati Bhavan said there will not be any Change of Guard Ceremony on June 8, 15, and 22.
“The Change of Guard Ceremony will not take place on June 8, 15 and 22, 2024 at Rashtrapati Bhavan due to the preparation for the Swearing-in-Ceremony of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers at Forecourt, Rashtrapati Bhavan and address to both the Houses of Parliament by the President,” read the statement.
