The decomposed body of a civil services aspirant, who hailed from Rajasthan’s Dausa, was found hanging from a tree in a forest area near a coaching institute library in northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area.
The youth, Deepak Kumar Meena, came to Delhi in July to prepare for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) main exam. He was missing for the past 10 days, police said.
The search for Meena started after a missing complaint was registered with the police who recovered his body from the bushes near the Dussehra ground in the Mukherjee Nagar area.
A report by PTI quoted a senior police officer as saying it was suspected that Meena committed suicide.
“CCTV cameras have been checked and it is suspected to be a case of suicide. A probe is underway,” the senior cop said.
Meena’s father CL Meena told the cops that his son used to call home every evening and the last time the family spoke to him was on September 10.
When Meena did not call on September 11-13, his father reached Delhi and began a search for his son.
CL Meena also went to his’s PG where he was staying. Meena’s roommates told him that his son had not returned for two days. Following this, he filed a complaint at Mukherjee Nagar police station.
An extensive search was launched and Meena’s body was found in a forest area near the institute where he attended classes.
It is suspected that he had gone to the forest area after class, the police officer said.
Meena’s bag was found hanging from the same tree, the cop said, adding that no suicide note was recovered.
The body was handed over to the family after postmortem.
