A court has sent Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to judicial custody till July 12 in the alleged excise policy case.

Kejriwal is accused of being part of the alleged Delhi Excise Policy scam and is being probed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He is currently lodged in Tihar jail.

The court’s order has come at the end of the three-day custody of Kejriwal. The CBI had argued that it needs Kejriwal’s custody in the “interest of investigation and justice”, according to NDTV.

It is alleged that the formulation and the execution of the now-repealed Delhi Excise Policy had irregularities and involved kickbacks. While the ED is probing the money laundering angle, the CBI is pursuing the criminal investigation. Top Delhi leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party like Kejriwal and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia are under the scanner.

Earlier this week, the CBI had arrested Kejriwal in the case. He was already in jail after earlier being arrested by the ED.
