Ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress on Monday released its manifesto, with key promises of restoring statehood, forming a minority commission in J&K within 100 days of coming to power and fully implementing former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s plan of rehabilitating Kashmiri Pandits.

Addressing the press conference after unveiling the manifesto, Jammu & Kashmir Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra said that the party manifesto is truly the “people’s manifesto”

“Through committees in 22 districts, we engaged with various segments of society, gathered feedback, and incorporated these valuable insights into this document. We proudly refer to it as the People’s Manifesto,” added Karra.

Here’s is a look at some of the key promises:

Speaking to ANI news agency, Congress leader Pawan Khera said that party has a great track record of fulfilling promises or guarantees in the past 10 years.

“If you look at the track record of Congress in the last ten years, be it Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, wherever we have formed governments we implemented our guarantees. People have faith in us… We have put our entire agenda in front of the public in our manifesto…The people of Jammu and Kashmir have made up their minds. They have decided that if the BJP has to be defeated, then only INDIA Alliance parties should be voted for…,” said Khera.

The polling for the 90-member Jammu and Kashmir Assembly will be held in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1. The results will be declared on October 8.

The Congress and the National Conference have entered into a pre-poll alliance for the elections, held for the first time since the abrogation of Article 370.

According to the seat-sharing pact, the NC will contest on 51 seats, while the Congress will fight on 32 seats.
