Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday released the 17th instalment of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PMKSN) at an event in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

The PMKSN is a Union government’s scheme to supplement farmers’ income. In the latest tranche, around Rs 20,000 are being disbursed to around 9.26 crore farmers across the country.

Modi released the tranche during the PM Kisan Samman Sammelan in Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency that he won in the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections for the third time.

“Our government is committed to making lives of our farmer brothers and sisters easier. I am proud of releasing the 17th instalment of Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi from the holy land of Kashi,” said Modi in Hindi, referring to the ancient name of the city.

After forming government earlier this month, approving the 17th instalment of PMKSN was the first decision of Modi, according to an official statement.

“Ours is a government fully committed to Kisan Kalyan. It is therefore fitting that the first file signed on taking charge is related to farmer welfare. We want to keep working even more for the farmers and the agriculture sector in the times to come,” said Modi at the time of the approval.

At the event in Varanasi, Modi was joined by UP Governor Anandiben Patel, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, and UP Deputy Chief ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak among.
