The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday questioned TMC MLA Sudipto Roy over the rape and murder case of a 31-year-old doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College.
Roy is the ruling Trinamool Congress party’s MLA from Sreerampur and is also the Chairman of Rogi Kalyan Samithi of RG Kar, the place where the junior doctor’s body was found on August 9.
Talking to PTI, a CBI officer said, “He was present at the hospital soon after the news of the doctor’s death spread. We are questioning him about what he knows about the case.”
Sleuths of the central probe agency were also conducting a search operation at a nursing home belonging to Roy.
Meanwhile, doctors have been relentlessly protesting to seek justice for their colleague despite the Supreme Court’s order to return to work. The Mamata-led government has also been trying to set up a meeting with the protesting doctors and has been urging them to resume work.
Earlier today, the Chief Secretary once again sent an email to the protesting doctors, inviting them to Nabanna for a discussion with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This is the second time such a letter was addressed by Chief Secretary Manoj Pant. However, the demands put forth by the protestors including allowing a 30-member delegation and live telecasting of the meeting were denied by the government.
