Tamil Nadu BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan rejected speculations over a viral video on social social media where Union Home Minister Amit Shah appeared to be having conversation with her in a stern manner.
Soundararajan, who resigned as Telangana governor in March, unsuccessfully contested the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Chennai. In a post on X, she said the actions of the Home Minister, as seen in the viral clip, were misjudged.
She further said that Shah was only “advising” her to “carry out political and constituency work intensively.”
The video was from the swearing-in ceremony of Chandrababu Naidu as Andhra Pradesh chief minister in Vijayawada.
This is to clarify…
“Yesterday as I met our Honorable Home Minister Amit Shah in Andhra Pradesh for the first time after the 2024 Elections he called me to ask about post poll followup and the challenges faced,” Soundararajan said in a post on X on Thursday evening.
“As I was elaborating, due to paucity of time, with utmost concern he advised to carry out the political and constituency work intensively, which was reassuring. This is to clarify all unwarranted speculations around,” she further said.
What Soundararajan-Shah viral clip showed?
The 18-second clip that went viral showed Soundararajan greeting Shah and former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu with folded hands. As she walks past, the Home Minister was seen calling her back and talking to her about something while wagging his finger as his Cabinet colleague JP Nadda, Nitin Gadkari, Chirag Paswan remain seated nearby.
Soundararajan has criticised BJP Tamil Nadu unit chief K Annamalai over the poll debacle in the state. Many speculated that Shah was scolding her over her remarks.
Taking a dig at Annamalai, Soundararajan had recently said: “I had a yardstick when I was (chief) of the BJP where I didn’t encourage anti-social elements. But, recently anti-social elements have been taken into the party. I have no doubt that he (Annamalai) is a good leader.”
