It has been over a month since BJP President JP Nadda took charge of the Union Health Ministry. It’s time for the party to get a new president and sources say a change in leadership could happen by the end of August.

According to a report by News18, the Bharatiya Janata Party will get a working president by next month. The saffron party on Thursday kicked off a two-day meeting with all General Secretaries from across states to discuss the results of the Lok Sabha elections.

Meanwhile, Nadda, on Wednesday, was in a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP General Secretary BL Santosh. Following this meeting, PM Modi held a separate one-on-one meeting with Shah where the two discussed the next BJP working president, sources said.

However, they also said that Nadda will be around as an advisor during the transitional period from the appointment of a working president to getting a full-time president later.

Nadda was given the position of BJP’s working National President in 2019 and was elevated to a full-time post in January 2020. While his term was supposed to end in January 2023, the BJP National Executive decided to extend it till a new party chief is picked.

Meanwhile, the election to choose a full-time president will only happen in January 2025 and till that time a working president will be appointed to share the workload.

The working president, chosen by BJP’s parliamentary board, will be expected to work till the election process within the party concludes by the end of the year.

Like Nadda’s case, the new working president’s service can be transformed into a full-time role.
