Aam Aadmi Party’s Atishi on Saturday took oath as the next chief minister of Delhi after Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation earlier this week.

With this, Atishi has become the youngest and the third woman chief minister of the national capital.

A first-time legislator, Atishi is a key face of the party and managed AAP’s operations during Arvind Kejriwal’s time in jail.

Along with her, five other ministers of AAP were sworn in and will be part of Delhi’s cabinet. These include Saurabh Bharadwaj, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gehlot, Imran Hussain and Mukesh Ahlawat.

Notably, Ahlawat is a new addition to Delhi’s cabinet. He contested the elections for the first time in 2020 and won his seat with an AAP ticket in his first try.

After being nominated as the CM-designate, Atishi said that “there is only one chief minister of Delhi and that is Arvind Kejriwal.” She also urged people of the national capital to vote for AAP in large numbers to bring the AAP convenor back to the top post.

Delhi will go to polls next year.

Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal officially resigned from his post this week days after he was granted bail by the Supreme Court in the alleged Excise Policy Scam.

His resignation came as a shock to many after he refused to step down while in jail.

The development comes ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections where AAP is contesting solo. Kejriwal is expected to hold campaign rallies in the state.

Kejriwal was released from jail six months after he was arrested in the alleged Excise Policy scam.

The Supreme Court, however, said that the AAP leader would not be able to visit the Delhi Secretariat or sign government files.
