Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s wife Kamlesh Thakur has won the Dehra Assembly seat while Aam Aadmi Party’s Mohinder Bhagat emerged victorious from Punjab’s West Jalandhar.

The counting in the rest of 11 seats is still underway although trends show that the INDIA bloc is leading in nine while the BJP is ahead in one seat.

Winner Kamlesh Thakur, after her victory, said, “The party leaders and workers worked day and night for this day… I will give all credit to the people who stood by the party throughout… I am proud of the people of Dehra.”

On his wife’s victory, CM Sukhu said, “I want to congratulate Kamlesh Thakur for winning the seat. The reason for fielding my wife from Dehra was to make Congress enter Kangra and increase the MLAs of the valley from 9 to 10. All three seats are a stronghold of BJP and we have won two of them, this is a big deal.”

Thakur has won 32,737 votes.

AAP celebrates victory

Aam Aadmi Party, which is part of the INDIA bloc, has won the Jalandhar West Assembly seat. The party’s candidate, Mohinder Bhagat, has garnered 55,246 votes.

Celebrations erupted in AAP’s office in Punjab soon after Bhagat was leading from the seat.

“I want to congratulate the CM of Punjab and the party workers for this big victory,” AAP leader Sanjay Singh said.

He added, “Aam Aadmi Party has got a ‘vardan’ that whoever betrays Aam Aadmi Party, the public will defeat him badly in the elections and his political career will end. Whoever left Aam Aadmi Party and joined BJP, his political career is over. Rinku Singh left AAP and lost the election, Sheetal left AAP and he also lost the election.”
