The Air India has reduced its free check-in baggage allowance from 20 kg to 15 kg for the lowest economy fare segment on domestic flights.

Such a reduction is part of the Tata Group-owned Air India’s menu-based pricing model that brings the airline’s pricing at part with other airliners like IndiGo, Vistara, and SpiceJet.

The Air India has said that the ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach was no longer ideal and hence the change has been made, according to PTI.

Under the new pricing, there are three fare groups of ‘Comfort’, ‘Comfort Plus’, and ‘Flex’. From May 2, the free cabin baggage allowance for the ‘Comfort’ and ‘Comfort Plus’ categories has been reduced to 15 kg from 20 kg and 25 kg respectively, as per PTI, which adds that the ‘Flex’ category will be allowed 25 kg.

Meanwhile, the business class baggage allowance on domestic routes will range from 25 kg to 35 kg and the same on international flights will vary from market to market, according to the report.

In a statement from the airliner carried by the agency, the spokesperson said that fare is designed to let passengers choose the kind of fare and services best suited for their requirements.
